The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) wants Irish banks nationalized. On the whole, I have gotten reasonably pleasant and good, if expensive, service at my bank. Just wait until the people behind the counter and the manager are unsackable government employees, not worried about losing money if you pull your account. That will be just a joy.

The professional bankers have made a hash of running the banks. So let's nationalise them and put amateurs in charge. You know it makes sense ...
I live in the US (NYC) where bank employees are not unionised. I understand that they are mostly unionised in Ireland which would explain the relatively bad service I get when I go there (actually Europe in general). And this was during the good times.
Service sector professionals should not be rewarded and protected by tenure. It's bad for shareholders, customers and job seekers.
Don't get me started on the teaching "profession"
