One of the more serious problems afflicting the university is the politicization of science. I have complained in the past about the politicization of sociology (and here too) and political science.

Two sociologists have started new blogs, and Mathieu Deflem of the University of South Carolina and Ellis Godard of Cal State - Northridge. Deflem in particular seems concerned to campaign against sociology becoming just another venue for political activism, with a web site devoted to the topic as well, Save Sociology. Good luck to them.
